Running this morning with my head down looking at the ground I reminded myself I needed to pull my head up. Why you may ask? If your head is down you can make sure there are no uneven segments in the sidewalk or path. Running with your gaze down right in front of you will actually slow you down and use more energy. With your head up and gaze forward you run faster with better form. My daughters are nearing the end of their cross country season. I thought about their running style especially as they near the finish. Their gaze is fixed on that finish line and they run the race to the best of their ability with all they have in them. This means that they have to have faith that their feet are going to make contact with solid ground pushing them forward to the finish. I applied this to my current spiritual journey. I feel like I am looking down at the ground making sure the ground is steady and secure. I am using a lot of my own energy and not getting far and definitely not getting anywhere fast. I felt God saying pull your head up and look to me. Trust in me. I will make sure the ground in front of you is secure, just keep your gaze on me and focus on finishing the race well. "Run in such a way as to the get the prize." I Corinthians 9:24 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13
