"Dream" my word for 2018. As 2017 came to a close I began to think about the year ahead. To be honest I was not really looking forward to 2018. What was there to look forward to? A bit pessimistic I know. Other members of my immediate family already had exciting plans in the works for the coming year but me, not so much. But then I heard a still small voice speaking to me about dreaming with Him. I was led to this verse in Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart." Delight, Desires, Dream...three D words filled with potential.
What does it look like to delight in the Lord? Delight is defined as a high degree of gratification or pleasure, children squealing in delight. I love that word picture, children squealing in delight. A feeling that cannot be contained. Am I spending time with my Heavenly Father, getting to know Him personally, and acknowledging His many gifts of grace so that I am His child squealing with delight? A natural overflow of that delight is that my desires become His desires for me which are abundantly more than anything I could have imagined. Delighting in the Lord produces a desire to love Him more and glorify Him. I can sincerely say God is my delight and my desire is to love Him more and glorify Him. Which leads to dreaming for the coming year(s). I am at a bit of a transition in my life, a mere one and half years from having an empty nest. I can look at this as the ending of a season which is true but it is also the beginning of a season. Which sounds more hopeful. What will this season look like for me? Now is the time to dream! And to dream with Him! He created me, He knit me together (Psalm 139:13-15). He knows me inside and out. He knows my passions, my gifts and my abilities. Rebecca Lynn, what are your passions (interests)? What excites you but at the same time can make you tear up?
