As I was driving to Dear Park last Friday to meet a dear friend and mentor it dawned on me that the Flood family would soon be ending another chapter in their lives as Abby is promoted from eighth grade into high school. This time of pondering in the car was prompted by a trip into Chicago the night before. Eric and I were attending an event at Fourth Presbyterian Church. Right across the street from the church is Water Tower Shopping Place and the American Girl Store. It struck me that we had not made our annual birthday trip to the American Girl store in quite a while. Did I know when I was there last that it might be the last time? The girls and I have fond memories of packing a picnic lunch and riding the Metra into the city. We would then hop on the free trolley to do some window shopping at Macy's and the American Girl Store. The trip home would include a stop at Millennium Park to play in the Crown Fountain in honor of the ending of a another school year. As I shared about my time in the car with my mentor she wisely said we can go back and review the chapters in our lives but we cannot relive them. As I look back and review these times I see them as building a foundation for where our relationship is today. As I look forward I am grateful for the solid foundation and God's grace that will carry us into the next chapter. Treasure the time with your children and make the most of every opportunity. In the blink of an eye she can go from pushing a stroller with her bitty twins, Noah and Maddie, to attending her eighth grade dance.
